The Sterling DarkRay is a high-performance bass designed in collaboration with Darkglass Electronics to deliver professional-level tonal versatility. Its body is crafted from Nyatoh wood, offering a balanced, resonant tone, while the comfort-contoured StingRay design and 3+1 headstock provide excellent playability. The roasted maple neck paired with an ebony fingerboard ensures smooth, responsive action across its 34" scale length, supported by 21 medium frets and a 9.5" radius for comfortable fretting and precise intonation.
At the heart of the DarkRay is the custom Darkglass 2-band active preamp, which provides three selectable modes: Clean (preamp-only), Alpha (distortion), and Omega (fuzz). Players can switch between these modes using a 3-way selector with a colour-coded LED ring for visual feedback. The onboard gain and blend controls allow precise mixing of drive circuits, while volume, treble, and bass knobs give full control over the tonal spectrum. An alnico humbucking pickup provides a clear, powerful output, suitable for a wide range of genres and playing styles. This integrated system eliminates the need for external pedals while maintaining a professional-level sound.
Additional features enhance both performance and reliability. The Sterling by Music Man-designed bridge and open-gear tuning machines ensure stable tuning and accurate intonation. Overall, the Sterling DarkRay combines modern hardware, advanced electronics, and ergonomic design, making it a versatile and reliable instrument for both stage and studio use.
