The Nick Johnston Traditional HH in Atomic Mercury brings together classic S-style elegance with the modern feel, precision and tonal authority that define Nick's signature instruments. Finished in Atomic Mercury, Schecter's name for Silverburst, it carries the torch for Nick's recent work with Mastodon. When he joined the band, he gravitated toward a Silverburst Schecter to match Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher onstage, explaining: "It’s different for me, with no single-coils. I can't believe how quick they turned it around - I had that guitar within a couple of weeks. There were songs where Troy and Bill were playing Silverbursts and I'd be there with my new purple signature, one of the 10th anniversary models. I figured it would look cool with everyone matching." Atomic Mercury captures that same aesthetic in a refined, signature-ready form.
The alder body features the familiar Traditional top contour, giving the guitar a comfortable, balanced feel that sits naturally against the player whether standing or seated. A wenge bolt-on neck provides a fast, smooth and stable playing experience, with a dual-action truss rod and spoke wheel adjustment at the heel for easy, precise setup. The ebony fingerboard adds snap and clarity, while the metal ring inlays give the guitar a clean, modern look. The Nick Johnston C neck shape feels immediately comfortable, offering a refined profile that suits both rhythm and lead work. With a 25.5" scale length, a 14" radius and 22 jumbo stainless-steel frets, the guitar delivers effortless bends, smooth vibrato and long-term durability.
A pair of Nick Johnston Atombucker pickups power the HH configuration, delivering clarity, punch and musicality across a wide range of gain levels. The 5-way superswitch expands the tonal palette far beyond a typical dual-humbucker layout, offering both full humbucking voices and articulate single-coil options. Switching positions include bridge humbucker, bridge single-coil, both single-coil, neck single-coil and neck humbucker, giving the guitar exceptional versatility for studio, stage and everything in between. This flexibility makes it especially suited to the dynamic, layered tones Nick explores with Mastodon, from atmospheric cleans to tight riffing and soaring melodic lines.
Schecter Nouveau locking tuners and the Schecter Nouveau tremolo system provide rock-solid tuning stability and smooth, expressive vibrato action. The Music City Bridge Three String Tree retainer ensures consistent break angle and tuning accuracy across the top strings, while the 42mm Graphtech Black Tusq XL nut adds sustain, clarity and friction-free performance.
