Ibanez designed their Iron Label series to be optimised for metal and metal alone. This guitar looks great for someone wanting a dark aesthetic with a no-nonsense approach to achieving great heavy tones and having great playability. The scale length of the guitar is extended by one-inch, to 26.5". This gives good stability for down-tuning without making the guitar feel too cumbersome to play. The pickups are passive, so there is no battery changes to worry about. The pickups themselves are high-quality DiMarzio D Activators, designed for powerful, tight metal tones, with a great low-end response. The guitar comes equipped with a coil-tap switch that works for both pickups, so you can achieve clear tones your cleans or lower-gain sections also.
As simple as the look is, Ibanez have really nailed the vibe. The whole guitar has a great blacked-out look. The fingerboard is ebony which helps maintain this vibe. The neck is perfect for the genre, featuring extra-deep cutaways so that you can get right up to the high notes with no problems, making the guitar great for solos as well as rhythms. The neck itself is a Wizard II profile made of maple, and roasted to be incredibly stable and resistant to changes in temperature and humidity. Plus, Ibanez have added luminescent side dots so that you can see where you are on the fingerboard easily when on dark stages.
All the other details that you'd hope for are there, including a Mono-rail bridge, with each saddle mounted individually, so that the strings resonate without affecting each other and placed for excellent intonation. The frets are jumbo sized, which always feels great for this genre. Plus, there is the full set of 24 so you won't be limited when trying to tackle various material or tabs for your favourite bands. The machine heads are both locking and from a top manufacturer - Gotoh - which keeps things stable and makes changing strings a lot quicker as you simply pull the string through the post, lock it and cut the excess length off. Easy! Adding to the great playability is a nice flat fingerboard, with a radius of 15.75".
The guitar comes from the factory strung and designed for ADGCFAD tuning (standard but shifted down a tone). However, here at Peach, we are happy to accommodate any requests you have and can bring this back up to standard or down even further, free of charge. Just let us know!
