Originally launched in 1961 as a temporary replacement for the single cutaway Les Paul, the SG gained favour with rock and blues players who were impressed by its innovative design. The Gibson SG Standard ’61 Faded pays tribute to the very first year of “SG” production and delivers killer tones that you’re sure to love!
When the Les Paul model was temporarily retired in 1961, Gibson launched a striking new solidbody design that would become known as the SG, short for “solid guitar.” The SG Standard ’61 Faded stays true to the look and feel of those iconic early-1960s originals. The classic all Mahogany body is finished in a gorgeous Faded Vintage Cherry satin nitro lacquer, which gives it the look and feel of a long-treasured musical companion. The classic black pickguard looks great and really completes the look!
It features a comfortable and secure Mahogany neck which feels great underhand whilst also offering tons of sustain. The SlimTaper neck profile is one of Gibson’s most popular options, so it was the natural choice to include on this guitar. The Rosewood fingerboard features a 24.75” scale length, 22 frets and Trapezoid inlays
Classic Gibson tones come courtesy of a pair of 60s Burstbucker humbuckers. With a really unique sonic character it is versatile, dynamic and offers crystal clear note definition. As this guitar is inspired by the classic ’61 SG, it features a Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece. It's a great example of timeless design.
