The Gibson LG-2 first appeared in 1942 during the celebrated “Banner” era and quickly earned a reputation as one of Gibson’s finest small-bodied acoustic guitars, loved for its impressive projection and warm, balanced tone. The Gibson LG-2 50s Original is a faithful tribute to the highly sought after 1950s version of this guitar. It combines vintage inspired aesthetics with exceptional craftsmanship.
This LG 2 features a solid Sitka spruce top supported by traditional scalloped X bracing, paired with solid mahogany back and sides. This classic tonewood combination delivers a warm, rich, and resonant sound with plenty of clarity and balance across the frequency range. The spruce top provides brightness and articulation, while the mahogany adds depth, and a strong midrange. The body is accented with 3-ply top and 1-ply back binding, which really helps to add to the vintage look.
The Mahogany neck features a compound dovetail joint secured with hot hide glue, which is a process which has changed very little in over 70 years. The Rounded neck profile is extremely comfortable and feels great in your hands, it’s super easy to navigate and is perfect for just about every style. The Rosewood fingerboard features 20 frets, a 24.75” scale length, 43.815mm nut width, and mother of pearl dot inlays.
To suit modern performance needs, the LG 2 50s Original is fitted with an L.R. Baggs VTC pickup system with discreet volume and tone controls mounted inside the soundhole. This makes the guitar ready for both stage and studio straight out of its included Gibson hard case, without compromising its classic vintage look and feel.
