Jake Kiszka is a guitarist and co-founding member of American rock band, Greta Van Fleet. He is known for his tight playing and for having a style that leans heavily into classic rock influences while still feeling fresh.
One of Jake’s most treasured instruments is his 1961 SG. It’s an essential part of his arsenal and helps him to deliver the powerful tones that Greta Van Fleet are known for. The limited edition Gibson Jake Kiszka SG pays tribute to Jake’s original instrument and delivers classic Gibson tones players will love.
This SG begins with a traditional double cut SG body crafted from Mahogany. This body shape is so iconic and really does look incredible. The Faded Vintage Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer is a great feature and design choice. The nitrocellulose finish is really thin, which allows the body to resonate much more effectively when compared to other finish types. As the finish is thin, it will begin to wear overtime giving each guitar its own unique look and vibe.
The SlimTaper Mahogany neck is extremely comfortable and easy to play. This neck shape is one of Gibson’s most popular options, so it’s great to see it used on this guitar. The Rosewood fingerboard is dark in colour and looks great. It features a 24.75” scale length, 12” radius, medium jumbo frets, and classic Trapezoid inlays.
The electronics move slightly away from a traditional early ’60s SG spec. Jake opted for a pair of T-Type humbuckers, designed for strong articulation, added dynamics, bright top end, and clear definition. Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls, with Orange Drop capacitors helping keep the response smooth and musical.
One of the most unique features of this SG is the bridge setup. It uses an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece, both tucked neatly beneath a Sideways Vibrola cover. While it keeps the look of Jake’s original ’61 SG, known as the “Beloved”, the Vibrola has been locked in place. You get all the vintage vibe, but with the added stability of a fixed, non-trem design.
Each guitar ships in a Gibson Modern hardshell case and comes with a spare backplate hand signed and stamped by Jake. You will also receive a custom leather strap featuring a metallic coin pendant designed by Jake himself.
