A new interpretation of the iconic Hummingbird model as part of Gibson's Artisan Series, this model elevates this legendary guitar with pleasing visual tweaks and ultra premium tonewoods.
Handmade in Bozeman, Montana, this Hummingbird is something truly magnificent - honouring what makes the original model so legendary, whilst adding enough flare and charm to make it a rare stand-out piece for collectors and players alike.
This edition features an absolutely stunning Koa back and sides as opposed to the more traditional Mahogany. This tonewood change retains the unmistakeable Hummingbird tone but gives it a unique visual perspective, as each piece of Koa has its own stand-out grain pattern. Koa is one of the most sought-after tonewoods not only due to it's striking aesthetic appeal, but also because of it's articulate tone that opens up beautifully the more you play it over time. Topped with a high-grade AAA Sitka Spruce top and finished in a classy Honey Burst finish for a warm, vintage-inspired look.
The Mahogany neck with a comfortable Rounded neck shape is topped with a bound Rosewood fretboard, which carries 20 frets and Abalone split parallelogram inlays. The headstock is adorned with a classic Gibson logo and crown, also rendered in Abalone. Gold-plated Grover tuners and TUSQ not only keep the tuning stable but match the colour of the Honey Burst superbly.
The tortoiseshell pickguard features the classic hummingbird design which includes the butterfly and flower art styling which make the Hummingbird so recognisable, however, this version contains a gold and silver-foil accents in the paint which creates a gorgeous iridescent quality that shimmers as you look at it from different angles. A Rosewood belly-up bridge holds a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins for a stable and reliable design.
Discreetly installed with an LR Baggs VTC pickup system, this includes a piezo under saddle element and active preamp, easily adjustable to your tastes via the controls tucked away in the soundhole. It's a stage-ready guitar which is perfect for the modern player, but retains its majestic vintage-inspired sound and aesthetics.
The Hummingbird has been one of the most influential acoustic guitars ever over the last 60+ years. Gibson's first square shoulder dreadnought, you'd be mistaken for thinking it is a one-trick pony - far from it. Of course, it sounds incredible for big chord strumming, flat-picking and all your country, blues and Americana stylings but it also sounds fantastic when it comes to more delicate fingerstyle patterns, producing a warm and dynamic response to solo playing as well as a full, open sound for rhythm styles.
