After many years of waiting, were thrilled to announce that the Gibson ES-330 is officially back as a core model within Gibson Customs Historic Collection!
1959 was one of the most iconic years in Gibsons history. It saw the release of some of their most legendary instruments, including the ES-330, which entered production for the very first time! This 1959-spec Gibson Custom ES-330 pays tribute to those original guitars from its debut year.
This 1959 ES-330 Re-issue features a fully hollow thinline body crafted from 3-ply maple/poplar/maple. This construction differs to the visually similar ES-335 as this guitar does not feature a maple centre block, which gives the ES-330 its trademark open sound and acoustic volume. Its a great guitar to play plugged into an amplifier, but its also a great guitar to play at home while sitting on the sofa. The nitrocellulose finish is super thin, allowing the wood to resonate and breathe, which further enhances this guitars tone. As with any fully hollowguitar, the ES-330 is more susceptible to feedback when compared to a solidbody or semi-hollowbody guitar. Its not intended for ultra high-gain tones, but it handles overdriven tones really well, making it a great guitar for Americana, blues, country, and jazz.
The 1-piece mahogany neck features a period correct authentic 1959 neck profile, so it will feel just like a vintage ES-330 that left the factory in 1959. This profile is comfortable and fills your hand, making playing super easy and enjoyable. The rosewood fingerboard is bound, and features a 24.75 scale length, 22 medium jumbo frets, a 12 radius, and cellulose dot inlays. As on all original 1959 ES-330s, the neck joins the body at the 16th fret.
One of the most important features of an ES-330 is the P-90 pickups. This re-issue features a pair of P-90s that have been designed and wounded to be as historically accurate as possible. The bridge pickup uses standard windings and an Alnico 3 magnet, while the underwound neck pickup uses an Alnico 5 magnet. Together, they give you a wide range of usable and inspiring tones. Each pickup is individually wired to its own volume and tone controls using CTS pots and paper-in-oil capacitors.
Other historically accurate features include nickel hardware, a no-wire ABR-1 bridge, a trapeze tailpiece, a nylon nut, Kluson Deluxe tuners, a multi-ply pickguard, and top hat knobs with dial pointers.
