The EarthQuaker Devices Towers is a stereo reverberant filter designed to create expansive ambient textures while remaining highly controllable in a practical performance or studio environment. It combines a large, adjustable reverb engine with regenerating multi-tap delays and a resonant low-pass filter, allowing players to shape complex layers of ambience and harmonic movement. The pedal includes assignable expression control, eight user-savable presets, and a dedicated Stretch function, giving players immediate access to a wide range of sounds without needing to adjust multiple controls during performance. Full stereo input and output options allow Towers to integrate easily into mono, mono-to-stereo, or full stereo rigs, making it suitable for pedalboards, recording setups, and modern stereo amplifier systems.
The front-panel controls allow precise adjustment of the effect's core parameters. The Mix control sets the balance between the dry guitar signal and the processed effect, allowing subtle ambience or fully wet atmospheric sounds. The Length control determines the duration of the reverb, from short and controlled reflections to extended ambient tails, and also adjusts the speed of the Stretch morphing effect. The Filter control determines how strongly the resonant low-pass filter influences the reverb pathway, allowing users to add subtle tonal shaping or pronounced harmonic movement within the effect. The Frequency control adjusts the filter cutoff and operates differently depending on the selected mode. In Manual mode, the player directly sets the filter frequency for precise tonal shaping across the stereo field. In Envelope mode, the filter responds dynamically to picking intensity, allowing expressive changes in tone that follow the player's touch. In LFO mode, the filter frequency is automatically modulated over time, creating slow movement and stereo sweep effects that add depth and motion to ambient sounds.
Towers also includes performance-focused features designed to expand its creative possibilities. The Stretch footswitch slows the internal digital processing to double the effective reverb length while altering the frequency spectrum and introducing a pitch-bending transition, producing evolving ambient textures. Players can tap the switch for an instant change or hold it to create a gradual morph, with adjustable transition speed. The pedal offers two bypass modes: tails mode allows the reverb to naturally decay after bypassing the effect, while full bypass cuts the signal immediately; both operate through a buffered bypass system that preserves signal strength across long cable runs.
An expression input allows external TRS expression pedals to control parameters such as Mix, Length, or Filter Frequency in real time, with assignments that can be saved within each preset. The pedal operates in Live mode for manual control or Preset mode for quick access to eight stored sounds, making Towers a flexible and performance-ready ambient effects unit.
