Musicians have long sought after the amazing characteristics of rotary speaker cabinets and the spacial effect they have on sounds in a portable package and now Boss have thrown their gauntlet into the arena with this latest RT-2 Stereo Rotary Ensemble. The Boss RT-2 replicates the characteristics of both a treble and bass router that are controlled with the 2-way fast/slow speed dial and uses an LED display to help visualise the current rotation of the rotors.
The RT-2's three-position Mode switch delivers the classic rotary speaker sound along with two modern variations developed with custom BOSS tuning. Mode I faithfully recreates the most famous vintage rotary speaker design using the latest BOSS modelling technology, adding traditional rotary character to instruments such as guitar, bass, organs, electric pianos and synths. Mode II expands on the vintage rotary tone with a wider tonal range and enhanced spatial performance, particularly effective when paired with overdrive or distortion. Mode III increases definition with stronger modulation and drive, giving arpeggios and solos greater power and presence.
Inspired by the tube amplification circuits found in vintage rotary speakers, the RT-2's Drive knob adds everything from subtle warmth to gritty distortion. A rear-panel switch allows this control to alternatively adjust the volume balance between the treble and bass rotors, with your most recent drive and balance settings automatically saved and recalled at power-up. Additional features include a Rise/Fall Time switch for adjusting rotor speed transitions, support for external footswitches or an expression pedal (for speed, brake and more), mono or stereo input and output, and two stereo output modes: standard stereo or separate wet and dry outputs.
