When the SG debuted back in '61 it was considered pretty radical for the time, with its thin body and no nonsense styling, it clearly focussed on raw power and playability. Quickly becoming a fan favourite with players like Pete Townshend, the SG found itself a permanent member of the Gibson roster. With the USA SG Standard 2016, Gibson wanted to capture the same level of excitement as back in '61.
With the classic Mahogany body, finished in Cherry, this SG is the same tone machine we all know and love. The Mahogany neck is topped with a lush Rosewood fingerboard to complete the tonewood dream team. With a Tektoid nut and compound 12" radius this is a premium style neck. Unlike normal Mahogany guitars, the SG is super light thanks to its thinline profile and simplistic design.
With a pair of Gibson 490R and 498T Humbuckers it offers bite and a super responsive, well-rounded tone. Perfect for players looking for the authentic Gibson Alnico tone, these pickups offer clarity, definition and punch. Everything you would want from an SG.
This guitar is used and does show signs of use, there are several marks and dings on the back and the usual buckle rash wear patterns too. It's definitely a gigged guitar! Any issues are purely cosmetic though and the guitar sounds and plays great!
