Description

Introducing the Collings D1, a premier steel-string acoustic guitar that stands out in the world of 14-fret dreadnoughts. While this body shape is widely recognized, Collings brings a fresh perspective, enhancing tonal clarity in the traditionally deep and warm sound. Perfect for vocal accompaniment due to its robust bass response, the Collings D1 also shines in the hands of bluegrass flatpickers, competing effortlessly with louder instruments like banjos and fiddles.

Crafted with precision and expertise, each Collings acoustic guitar starts with the careful selection and evaluation of the wood's density and rigidity. The top is then hand-graded to its unique thickness, maximizing its tonal potential. Utilizing the finest tonewoods available, master luthiers hand-select each component, considering the overall tonality of the end instrument.

The Collings D1 features a powerful combination of torrefied Adirondack spruce top and Honduran mahogany back and sides, delivering a guitar with crisp articulation, warm tones, and a beautiful balance. The Adirondack spruce scalloped X-brace further emphasizes these qualities. The Modified V Honduran mahogany neck, along with a compound radius Ebony fingerboard, ensures excellent playability and a smooth fret feel.

Precision is paramount in the construction process - with a combination of PLEK machine levelling and hand fret dressing, guaranteeing consistently excellent playability. The nitrocellulose lacquer finishes, meticulously hand-sanded between coats, maximize acoustic response, providing both protection and aesthetic appeal. Premium Waverly open-gear tuners contribute to exceptional tuning stability and smooth, reliable operation with a vintage aesthetic.

Completing the elegant design are tortoiseshell binding, a black and white wood rosette, and mother of pearl dot inlays – simple yet refined 1-style appointments that complement the warm hues of the Honduran mahogany back and sides.
