Paul Waller is known across the globe as one of Fenders highly revered Masterbuilders, a select group of the worlds most esteemed luthiers. With this Godly status, any guitar with his name attached generates a huge amount of interest, and rightly so! His builds are played by some of the world’s elite players including Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Buddy Guy, Nile Rodgers and possibly most famously Troy Van Leeuwen for whom he built a twin neck Jazzmaster.
The Fender Custom Shop Paul Waller Masterbuilt ’53 Tan Line Tele Heavy Relic is a great example of the legendary prowess of the Masterbuilders.
With a two-piece Ash body this guitar is super resonant and has a really bold tone. The heavy relic finish gives the appearance of a well-loved ’53 Tele, the finish is tanned as if a Bigsby has been installed and removed at some point. It’s totally authentic and really cool. The level of attention to detail that has been applied to this guitar is simply out of this world!
The neck is crafted from plain grain Maple and features a soft V profile, it’s real comfortable and with a 7.25” radius and 21 vintage style frets it’s smooth and at home playing slick runs and crisp chords right up the neck.
Loaded with a handwound Broadcaster at the bridge and a handwound ’51 Nocaster single coil at the neck you get a broad variation of tones. From clean sparkle to a raunchy growl, this guitar really is a players dream. These pickups were handwound by Fender pickup master Josefina Campos, Josefina was apprentice to Fender legend Abigail Ybarra and knows all the secrets to unlock the tonal potential of any guitar.
