Martin are world renowned for their ability to craft beautiful guitars perfect for the working musician. With their effortless playability and stunning design, they have a really rich history and are considered one of the very best acoustic manufacturers around. If you want the very pinnacle of acoustic guitar construction, there's only one place to look, the Martin Custom Shop.
Fresh in from Nazareth, Pennsylvania is a Limited Edition UK exclusive range of Sinker Mahogany guitars. Sinker Mahogany is the talk of the industry at the moment, originating in Belize, this Mahogany was felled roughly 300 years ago before being floated downstream with the intention of building vast ships. The less buoyant logs often sunk to the bottom and were preserved by a lack of oxygen and a torrent of river silt; these logs have a density that is perfect for guitar building. These logs are now being re-harvested by locals and are an incredibly in demand luxury timber with Yacht and furniture makers. Martin have managed to secure a limited amount of Sinker and these guitars are the product of it!
With an all Sinker Mahogany construction, top, back and sides, this 000 body shape offers a really dynamic and vibrant tone. Tonally, these guitars are as close as you will get to a genuine pre-war Martin, there is no artificial ageing here, this wood is old!
The Sinker Mahogany neck is an absolute dream to play. With a Modified Low Oval neck shape, 25.84" scale length and a 1 3/4" nut width, this Martin is supremely comfortable and smooth underhand. The Black Ebony fingerboard is the perfect partner for this neck; beautifully crafted it's a real treat to play. Sinker Mahogany necks are a bit of a rarity due to the amount of timber required but even the neck block is Sinker on these models.
