The most common usage for a 12-string acoustic is for rhythm work. What could be better at getting the job done than a classic Martin D-28 style dreadnought offering? As with a six-string D-28, Martin have paired Sitka spruce with East Indian rosewood. It's a classic choice that handles the sparkle of the melody, the mid-range of chords and the low-end of the bass.
As far as looks go, it ticks every box for this style of guitar. The body finish is glossed and treated to Martin's ageing toner for a classic aged look but with no relic work having been done. The binding is a beautiful Antique White - reminiscent of what would have once been genuine ivory in appearance. The inlay around the top is Martin's classic and often copied Herringbone style. At Peach, a guitar like this is individually photographed so you can see for yourself that this one has particularly beautiful rosewood and a great faux-tortoiseshell pickguard.
The saddle is genuine bone to allow for excellent transference of vibration and energy from the strings to the guitar. It sits on a lovely, dark ebony bridge and is compensated for accurate intonation. The neck of the instrument is left satin so as not to feel sticky. This gives the best of both worlds - a glossed, classy look to the body whilst still having a comfortable and practical feel to the neck. The fingerboard is also made of ebony, with abalone inlays. The nut is also bone and measures 46mm; this gives plenty of room for playing the 12-string but with the comfort of a 6-string.
Coming complete with a Martin case, also photographed, this really could be the ultimate 12-string acoustic guitar.
