Suhr Aura - Aged Cherry Burst

One of the biggest talking points of NAMM 2018 was the reveal of a Limited Edition 20th Anniversary model from our friends at Suhr, the Aura. A departure from the usual Suhr offerings with its slick single cut, set neck design, the Aura is reminiscent of the guitars that John Suhr grew up playing. This is his take on the classic design, minus all the issues that personally bugged him and what better time to release it than the 20th Anniversary of Suhr guitars.

Limited to just 100 instruments worldwide, the Suhr Aura will feature a deep-dish carve flame maple top on a sweet Okoume body, tonally similar to Maple, Okoume delivers a crisp and even tone. With lush contours it promises to be a really comfortable player, lightweight but super resonant and with a stunning Aged Cherry Burst finish, it’s a real looker. There is no weight relief or chambering here, just great design and mega tones.

The Khaya Mahogany neck features a 10”-12” radius and a 24.625” scale length and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Beautifully balanced and with access right up the board, the Aura is comfortable whether you are laying down a monster riff or unleashing a killer solo. John Suhr will be personally levelling the fingerboards as well as all the fretwork on this original run of 100 special guitars. With this being such a personal project, it’s great to see John really involved in the build.

A Thornbucker + sits at the bridge, and delivers a little more fire than the Thornbucker at the neck. The Thornbuckers take the classic PAF vibe and bring them firmly into the 21st century, this is one versatile cat. The controls have been flipped so you get easy access to the bridge volume and tone, a personal preference of John Suhr and one that will certainly appeal to a lot of players.
