Hand picked by us during a recent trip to the Fender Custom Shop facility in Corona, California. There were 3 UK dealers on this trip and as we entered the Custom Shop conference room to pick the stock we wanted, it soon became clear that we all wanted the same guitars! However, most of the guitars on display were one-offs, so the fairest way was to have our names picked from a hat, to see who would "win" the chance to purchase the guitar. The luck was with me that day, we snagged 11 out of 14 guitars!
Built by Master Builder Todd Krause, the man who's responsible for building Eric Claptons guitars.
It has a fair amount of the specs and tweaks that Todd likes to put into his own guitars, including a 5 way switch, shielding paint in the pickguard cavitiy and a non reverse wound middle pickup, for the ultimate in vintage tones.
The shielding in the cavity is something that SRVs tech, Rene Martinez used to do to Stevies Strats, it would cut down on some of the electrical interference that single coils can suffer from and in turn, slightly lower the inductance, which adds a little more low end focus. It's like the tone of a guitar tuned down to e flat, it's just generally a little darker and fuller.
9.5 radius with 6105 medium jumbo frets, so the playability is super sweet.
It has an alder body, which is my favourite combination on a Strat, the maple neck keeps some snap to the tone but the alder body adds some extra punch.
Perfectly finished in an aged desert sand over 3 tone sunburst.
