The "Ultra Phoenix" Mod is a modification made famous by a certain Mr Howard Dumble. He would get an old vintage amp like a bandmaster and turn it into a fire breathing rock machine! Joe Morgan has carried on the tradition in this amp for sure, and as always put his own little spin on it!
It's definitely one of those amps where what you put in, you definitely get back out. Like a lot of Dumble amps, it can be very revealing however a good guitar player will sound the best they ever have through an amp like this.
Joe summed it up perfectly to me:
"The PX50 is a 50 Watt (6550) single channel amp with two separate input voicing's.
The more gain input will take you to high gain heaven, it will do all of the classic van halen tones and beyond.
The less gain input is a HUGE punchy med to low gain, think petty black crowes, modern country.
Both inputs are extremely articulate and touch sensitive. The inputs are NOT foot switchable. You can only use one at a time"
