Description

AER have cemented themselves as the go to guys for acoustic sound solutions. With the Alpha and Compact series becoming industry standard for acoustic guitar amplification, their products are on stages and in studios all over the globe. The AER Alpha is the baby of the range but still delivers an almighty punch. Very similar to the Compact 60, the Alpha has a 40 watt output and slightly simplified preamp section. The Alpha retains the incredible sound quality that AER have become famous for. It may be small but it's definitely a heavyweight in the acoustic amps division!

Input 1 features a combined XLR and jack plug (with 48V phantom power on the XLR) that can be switched from mic to line level with ease and fine-tuned to perfection with the input gain control. Likewise, input 2 features a jack plug with switchable high or low pad attenuation and 9V phantom power (TRS cable required) that is perfect for powering onboard instrument preamps. It also features a dedicated input gain control and a "colour" tone switch to cut mids and boost the treble. Both inputs then enter a global 3-band EQ which is a great tool for shaping your tone to the room and environment - as is the handy master volume.

The onboard digital reverb is another great tool for adding a sense of space to you sound and is easily adjusted with the efx level control. If you wish to experiment with more effects in your tone, these can be easily implemented via the footswitchable FX loop on the back of the amp. The beauty of this amp is that it gives you exactly what you need without any confusing extra features - and that carries on over to the outputs too. With a simple line out, headphones out, DI out, and a dedicated pre-FX output for a tuner, the bread and butter is all there for a smooth performance.

If you want more power and control over your sound then the Compact 60/4 or Compact 60/4 Slope make an excellent choice for not too much more money.

Please Note: The 48V phantom power on XLR input 1 is set by default to always be on - this can be damaging to mics which aren't designed to accept this. Deactivation of the 48V is configurable by internal jumpers which we recommend be carried out by qualified personnel only. Or you can use a TRS jack plug on input 1 for mics that don't accept phantom power.
